A Little About Me, Racquel

I created Right Beside You from a simple belief: getting older shouldn't mean giving up the independence, routines and everyday experiences that make life your own.

Sometimes what we need isn't traditional “care” at all. It's someone dependable to drive us to an appointment, lend a hand with an errand, help navigate a frustrating piece of technology, share a conversation, or simply be there when an extra pair of hands would make the day easier.

That's what I want Right Beside You to provide—practical, personal support that fits into your life without taking it over.

Support that respects the life you've built.

Why I Created Right Beside You

You remain in charge of your life. I'm simply there beside you.

Throughout my life, I've come to appreciate how important independence, dignity and human connection are—especially as we grow older.

I've also seen how difficult it can be for families to always be there. Work, distance and everyday responsibilities can make it challenging to help with every appointment, errand or little thing that comes up.

Right Beside You was created to help bridge that gap.

My approach is simple: I'll take the time to listen, understand what's important to you and provide support in a way that feels comfortable and respectful. Whether we're heading to an appointment, picking up groceries, sorting out your phone or simply enjoying some company, the support is always shaped around you.

What You Can Expect From Me

Inviting someone into your life—or into the life of someone you love—requires trust. I believe that trust is built through consistency, respect, kindness and simply doing what you say you will do.

Your preferences, routines and choices matter. I'll take the time to understand what's important to you rather than assuming what you need.

I'm here to support you, not take over. You remain in control of your decisions, your home and the way you choose to live.

Good support is about more than completing a list of tasks. It's about conversation, connection, humour and getting to know the person I'm spending time with.

Reliability matters. If we've made an arrangement, you should be able to feel confident knowing I'll be there.

Dependable when you need help. Respectful when you don't.

A Lifetime Built Around People

Sometimes being of service simply means noticing what's needed—and being willing to step in.

A little more about me

Away from work, I'm also an author and trained yoga teacher. Writing, yoga, photography, creativity, travel and spending time in nature are some of the things that feed my soul and keep me curious about life.

My professional life has always centred around people. Over the years, I've worked in administrative, management and client-support roles in Canada and internationally—often in positions where being organised, dependable, adaptable and able to think on my feet really mattered.

One of the experiences that shaped me most was living and working within the residential community at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga. As a senior manager, my role included supporting residents, retreat guests, staff and volunteers and helping ensure that the needs of the community were met. The community was also home to a number of elders, which gave me an appreciation for the different needs, rhythms and perspectives people bring as they move through life.

And while my title may have said manager, life in a community doesn't always follow a job description. Sometimes what was needed was managing a schedule or solving a problem. Other times it was picking up groceries, driving someone from the ferry or simply stepping in wherever an extra pair of hands was needed.

That practical, flexible approach is something I bring to Right Beside You today.

I'm often described as calm, and I'm naturally practical and adaptable. I learn quickly, work efficiently and tend to stay level-headed when plans change or an unexpected situation arises. Most importantly, I believe in paying attention—to the person in front of me, to what they need and to what I can do to make their day a little easier.

Let's Get to Know Each Other
